Holiday Events in D.C. – We Make It Easy to Enjoy Them
Holidays are special in the Capitol. Even if you’ve been there before, why not take the opportunity to enjoy all the great sights, sounds and have fun?
Take the time to share the holidays with family and friends. D.C. has so many unique things going on, and some of the lesser-known events are far too interesting to miss– so go out enjoy and the events around town!
Some of our favorites include:
One of the most spectacular sites to visit is Georgetown Glow – the whole area is a sea of lights and stunning presentations from early December to the first week of January. Bridges, public areas and more are aglow with some of the most remarkable displays that can be imagined.
Artists from around the region and the nation apply to make this event amazing. It’s a more-than-fabulous light show. The artists make astounding installations, especially those which have kinetic effects
It makes no difference if you have a party of two or a large group, spend some time enjoying the dazzle. Make it a great trip, appreciate the beauty and avoid issues – and don’t forget the pictures – yes, selfies too!
U.S. Botanical Garden – Season’s Greenings
The Botanical Garden has a wide variety of flowers and exhibits open from just before Thanksgiving through the first days of January. The Garden hours are normally 10 AM through 5 PM, BUT it will stay open until 8 PM Tuesday and Thursday evenings in December for holiday concerts.
Make a party date for a concert, plan an “after celebration” and let a trip to the nation’s garden be one of your special holiday occasions.
More Special Events
National Christmas Tree
The National Christmas in the President’s Park on the White House Ellipse is one of the nation’s most iconic affairs. There are a series of nightly musical events throughout the holidays that make it one of the most amazing things to do in DC during the holiday season. The most magical experience is certainly the tree-lighting celebration itself, where thousand of individuals, couples, and families gather to see the tree being lit for the first time each year.
Enjoy the loft splendor of a 7-story high tree, with more lights than anyone can count. Don’t forget to save some time for socializing afterwards, especially if you want to truly celebrate. After the lighting, many bars and restaurants are flooded with people celebrating and spreading the holiday spirit.
Smithsonian's National Zoo Light Tree
You can’t go wrong with this wonderland, no matter how often you go! The landscape starts out beautiful, and then there are the vistas of colored lights. It is the perfect place to enjoy a tour with children of all ages accompanied by hot cocoa and cookies,
